A parliament of owls |
Ter whit ter whoo, how are you? |
I had prepared starter kits for each pair of children and gave them an instruction sheet and templates. We worked step by step as this was the best method. The children were all very enthusiastic and the owls had interesting body shapes even though the plastic bags we used were of similar sizes. The masking tape was applied in great quantities in some cases, as was glue! Choosing materials and colour choice varied for each group and at this stage some children had already named there owl so the personality of the owl matched how it was decorated.

Look into my eyes |
The head was made from coloured tissue with a different colour for the lower body, or sometimes Christmas streamer strips and foil biscuit wrappers were chosen.
Feeling sleepy |
A variety of material for the wings included, artificial flower petals, bath sponges, pan scrubs and card.
Girls, girls gather round I've something exciting to tell you |
The eyes carried all the expression. Coloured paper was put behind the eye and the eye shape was made from a milk bottle or beer bottle top and for the large owls the plastic lids from a Bisto granular carton. Expression was created by where they placed the black pupil in the eye. These varied in size and shape.

Love the Alice band |
The beak was made from a pan scrub and we had large and small beaks.
Hoot |
Prim and proper |
Then came the exciting part the decorating and personalising of the owls. Great enthusiasm was shown when I produced a piece of tinsel which was used in many ways and hats appeared on several owls.
Razzle dazzle |
I don't understand? |
The owls will be flying to Kirkoswald shop in the new year and they may even migrate to the Artful Garden who knows. It is also rumoured that there might be a rare Christmas owl to be seem in the Artful Garden as part of the Christmas display.
A stunning sunset.
