Wet and Wild

Apart from Monday we have had severe and continuous rain. This has caused serious flooding locally and beyond.

As the water level rises the arches of the bridge disappear

The swollen river has burst it banks.
Almost ready to flood

Some fields are flooded.
Water, water everywhere

On Monday I spent the day on my new allotment. You will be able to see from the pictures that there is plenty to keep me occupied.
To dig, dig, dig

A lot of the plot is flooded as there has been carpet liner and underlay laid down and the grass and weeds have grown thorough it.
I have brought two chairs for relaxation!
Nasturtiums still in bloom in November

I have planted up two old wheelbarrows.

I have started to clear one section.

I have a lovely shed which I had to clear.
Lots to explore

I found the remains of a bird's next.

I really enjoy being out in the fresh air and close to nature.

On Sunday I made candid peel for my cakes and puddings.

On Tuesday I made my Christmas cakes and puddings. I has all the kitchen windows open to get rid of the steam as you have to steam the large pudding for 6 hours.

This and That

What a change to the weather. This week we have had strong gales and lashings of rain. The weather is still mild and the cows are still out in the fields.

The barns are full of hay ready for the winter.
Baled over

I have started to dig my new allotment but it has been a mud bath.

My Autumn raspberries are still fruiting, hard to believe that this is still happening in November.
Still red and sweet

The feverfew is still in flower.

We are getting some dramatic sunsets.
Just a hint of pink

The river Eden from being very shallow is now in full spate.

Awesome Autumn

Up until this week there has been some stunning Autumn colours. At this time of year the trees look at their best. Now the leaves are falling like confetti.

There has been evocative sound both day and night from flocks of geese flying in their classic 'V' formation across the pale blue sky.

The horse chestnut trees look rich and golden.
