Halloween Happenings 2

Two glorious hot days at the start of this week meant I could catch up on all my gardening and start to pull up the thistles on my new allotment. So far I have filled 4 large compost bags with thistles and willowherb. Since then we have had very heavy rain.

Halloween has taken the Artful Garden by storm.

If you dare taste a red apple but remember what happened to Snow White!
Rosy and red but .......

A cobweb hangs on the gate, a taste of what is in store.
Webs and bunting

You can glimpse lanterns, apples and a pumpkin but beware of the spiders and webs of intrigue.
How many apples can you see?

A giant cobweb is suspended near Uno Recycleo. Can you see the spiders? Uno Recycleo has joined in the Halloween spirit. Spiderweb bunting blows in the chilly breeze.

Boozy Floozie thinks Halloween will be a good day to drink 'Wicked.'
The drinks are on me

Bobby Barley has a spider cape and the cold winds keep trying to blow off his hat.
Check out my cape and look at my chicken friend

The chickens have gone Halloweeeen.

Two ghosts have appeared in the garden together with a large paper lantern.

Miscellaneous Musings

A mixed week of weather. On Thursday we had very strong gales. The trees are just holding onto their leaves. The countryside looks so beautiful with all the Autumn colours.
My journey from the Eden Valley to Hartside is always a pleasure. There are some amazing rock formations.
Bleak but spectacular

Also stunning skies. As I drove back late afternoon the sun was beginning to illuminate the sun's rays.
Dramatic moody sky

A tumble of cloud hangs over the Eden Valley

There are still a few autumn flowers in bloom.

Vibrant red hot pokers brighten up the flowerbed.
Light my fire

Baby pink nerines add colour against the grape vine.
Pretty in pink

I have picked a small quantity of kale that survived the slugs and snails.
Fresh and tender

On a visit to Northumberland if found this mural in a pub. It dates back to the 1960's and was discovered buried under 20 layers of wallpaper.
Tally ho

House signs can be imaginative.
No decision needed on what colour to paint the bell

I found this former pet shop sign in Hexham.
You can just imagine the pets entering two by two

The bakery in Hexham is getting ready for Halloween.
You too can have a figure like ours. All our cakes are sugar free.

Keider Kapers

Last Saturday we cycled along the east shore of Keilder Water beside the reservoir. Cycling is a good way to see the countryside.
Fungus comes in many sizes. Enormous orange.
As big a a side plate

Medium cream.

Tiny white.

Some of the forest trees appear to be 'rusty.' They also look as though they are studded.
They remind me of medieval doors

A collection of horsetails.
No horse in sight

Green moss on the forest floor.
Vivid green moss mixed with dead pine needles

Brackish water.
Inky chestnut brown

The lake had formed beaches.
Sand dunes

Sticky secretions trickle out onto the bank.

There are various art sculptures along the route.

The Janus chairs rotate 360 degrees.
You push the chairs to rotate and the view changes from water to land

They move in the breeze
These remind you of fish scales
Fish eggs
A double layer of plastic

The Silvas Capitalis,a giant forest head is very spectacular. It is made of small sections of wood. You can climb inside.

Cows Cobwebs and Canals

We are waking up to misty mornings that turn either into a warm sunny day or wet and wild.
I have been busy clearing my herb bed ready for a new start next year. It is amazing how mint can take over a plot.

Transport from a former age.
An old bus

Interesting vans.
Vans for the memory

Amusements of a bygone age.
Helter skelter and swing boats

I love this old shop sign.
